Your surgery is only the first step in your healing journey. At The Institute for Advanced Reconstruction, we want to ensure that you can experience the full benefits of your treatment through dedicated follow-up care.
Follow-Up Care
Follow-Up Care
Your Recovery
Recovery can be a long process. It’s important to remember that the end result will be worth it. Many of our procedures are minimally invasive and done on an outpatient basis. Even so, we recommend rest in the days following your surgery. Your doctor will give you specific instructions depending on which surgical procedure you undergo. These will include how soon you can drive, return to work, and resume normal activity.
We may ask you to wear a compression garment for several weeks following your surgery. This will provide concentrated support during your recovery. You may want to order two garments to alternate between washing. Please order your garment in advance and bring it with you on the day of your surgery.
Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy
Many of our procedures, especially those that involve nerve reconstruction, will require regular physical therapy to help you regain motion and strengthen your muscles. We will work with you to plan and schedule these sessions to ensure you have the best chance for a successful surgery and recovery.
Follow-Up Appointments
Assessing the progress of your recovery is important in the aftermath of your surgery. At your follow-up appointments, we will:
- Examine the site of the surgery to make sure everything is healing properly
- Discuss your pain levels to ensure they are improving
- Observe your movement and functionality
- Answer any questions or concerns you have regarding your recovery
