Complex incisional hernias repaired in conjunction with the Bony Anchoring Reinforcement System (BARS) prevents hernia recurrence

Methodology and Patient Cohort

The study included 63 patients with complex incisional hernias who underwent repair with BARS. The technique involves anchoring synthetic mesh to bony landmarks to reinforce the hernia repair.

With an average follow-up of 3.1 years, the results are encouraging:

  1. No recurrent hernias in any patients
  2. One patient developed abdominal bulging, which was successfully retreated
  3. Five patients had mesh infections, but none required complete mesh removal
  4. Overall low complication rates
