Nerve Reconstruction Techniques for Arm Paralysis

Our surgeons are fellowship-trained hand and upper extremity specialists with years of focused training in reconstructive nerve surgery. In addition to research and clinical trials to stay on the cutting edge of new developments, we perform a high volume of reconstructive nerve procedures each year with excellent success rates.

Repairing and Restoring Nerve Function for Patients with Arm Paralysis

Upper extremity paralysis occurs when nerves are affected by illness or injury. At The Center for Hand & Upper Extremity Surgery, a division of The Institute for Advanced Reconstruction, our nerve reconstruction experts bring a world-class knowledge of cutting-edge surgical techniques and specialized skills, knowledge, and experience. Together, we can partner with you and your patients from around the world to improve their quality of life and overall outcomes.

Creating a Framework for
New Growth and Signal Pathways

The type of surgery that our team recommends is dependent on the cause, severity, and duration of the paralysis to address each patient’s individualized needs, with options including:

  • Nerve Transfer Surgery

We will take a healthy, functioning nerve and reroute it to a damaged nerve. Without functioning nerves, muscles can atrophy and degrade quickly – so by transferring healthy nerves close to the paralyzed muscles, the healthy nerves can connect to the muscles
    and restore functionality.

  • Reconstructive Nerve Surgeries

Our team may also recommend additional reconstructive nerve surgeries based each individual’s condition, which may include a nerve graft, muscle or tendon transfer, or nerve repair.
