Lipedema Treatment

Lipedema is a chronic condition characterized by the abnormal accumulation of fat cells in the legs, thighs, buttocks, and sometimes arms. Unlike typical fat distribution, fat in these areas is often nodular, painful, and resistant to weight loss.

At The Institute for Advanced Reconstruction, we are at the forefront of lipedema treatment. Dr. Ashinoff and Dr. Chang offer cutting-edge liposuction procedures aimed at reducing pain and enhancing mobility for patients suffering from lipedema and its complications. Our doctors’ expertise, coupled with our recognition as a Lymphatic Disease Surgery Center of Excellence, positions us as leaders in advancing treatment options and raising awareness about lipedema and its interconnected conditions.

Understanding Lipedema

Is It Right For You?

If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, you may benefit from a consultation with one of our lipo-lymphedema specialists:

  • Disproportionate Fat Accumulation: Fat tends to accumulate excessively in the legs, thighs, buttocks, and sometimes the arms, leading to a disproportionate body shape.
  • Symmetrical Fat Deposits: The fat deposits in lipedema are usually symmetrical, meaning they occur evenly on both sides of the body.
  • "Cuff" Effect: Minimal fat is deposited in the hands and feet, often creating a noticeable "cuff" or band-like appearance at the ankles or wrists.
  • Tenderness and Pain: Affected areas are often tender or painful to the touch.
  • Easy Bruising: Individuals with lipedema may experience easy bruising in areas where fat has accumulated.
  • Heaviness in Limbs: A common symptom is a feeling of heaviness in the limbs, particularly the legs.
  • Resistance to Diet and Exercise: Lipedema is resistant to conventional weight loss methods, such as diet and exercise.
  • Nodular Fat Lumps: Small, bead-like lumps of fat may develop under the skin.
  • Family History: A genetic predisposition may be present, as many individuals with lipedema have a family history of similar fat distribution patterns.

Understanding these characteristics can aid in the early recognition and management of lipedema.

I’m so grateful to Dr. Ashinoff for his excellence in his profession. He provided me with reconstructive surgery after my partial mastectomy. I’m extremely happy with the results. He is also very easy to talk to and will answer any questions (note: write them down incase you forget because I have forgotten a few). He explains things thoroughly and clearly. Many people like myself are very nervous when it comes to surgeries and he had a way of making me feel at ease through the process. I'm truly grateful for that. I'm thankful to have regained my confidence back.

I LOVE Dr. Ashinoff and his staff at the plastic surgery center. I Have never felt so completely comfortable with a doctor and staff than I am there. I had a huge lipoma on my back shoulder that should have been removed years ago. I had not one ounce of pain or discomfort after. Clean and very well run offices. Especially during this covid 19 pandemic. I highly recommend them!
